CONCERT REVIEW: August 1, 2006 at Anfiteatro Ostia Antica in Ostia (Roma), Italy

I have seen JB and David Lindley on Aug. 1 at the Roman Anfitheatre of Ostia Antica (Rome). Wonderful place and wonderful music. Both them have been great (as they are).

Jackson seemed to play for an audience made of friends.

I have seen Jackson many times in Rome, but this is the first time he plays with David. I hope to see them more often. Bye.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

I am back. I had no idea JB had a new album. It's pretty good. Always is. I was wondering, Kenny Chesney is a big fan. Has anyone noticed the simularities between his Greatest hits and JB's I'm alive? Look at the covers.

CONCERT REVIEW: August 9, 2006 at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, U.K.

I took my time to write this review. I went to watch Jackson in Manchester's Bridge Water hall (excellent venue) on the 9th of August this being the second time I've seen him live and again he was sheer brilliance. All the songs he sang were as good as each other and having David Lindley there made the performance go even better. There was a man who played the bonjo's and he added to the performance being memerable for me.

Jackson at one point invited a rodie onto the stage to play his guitar which made me an the auidience laugh but again the lad was good. My favoriate song of the night was his last song Looking East and my dad's was Lives in the Balance. This takes nothing away from all the other songs being excellent. I want to thank Jackson again because I had a good night and I was starstruck seeing him. Thank you Jackson. Me and me dad look forward to seeing you perform again.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

I'm an Australian music freelance writer for many music magazines around globe... the reason I'm writing is that each month I feature an archival interview with an artist conducted in the past. Last month it was Bryan Adams from 2002. This month (Sept.) I've posted an interview I conducted with Jackson Browne back in 2002. Would you be kind enough to post a note on your website/forum about it so fans can check it out? I'd appreciate it. I also have a Browne pic on my site too in my gallery section.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Mr. Paris--I have enjoyed your site immensely but also enjoy viewing photos at www.jacksonscafe.com and have reason to believe you participate in that one too. I have a translation for the Norwegian photo of Jackson but have been unable to add a comment to that site or even get myself registered there. Maybe you can help them put this info on the site?

The photo is accessed (for those who don't know about it) at the website I've mentioned (click on gallery then click photo galleries then click jackson browne and go to page 4--misc.-Susan. Her page 10/photo 82) or at www.adressa.no/kultur/article522822.ece.

The article is just too cool not to spread the word on. The photo caption describes the celebrated visitor pictured with his family/distant relatives in a part of Norway called Skatval. They were celebrating the blonde woman's 30th Birthday that weekend. From left is Ryan Browne, a local musician named "Smiley", the birthday girl named Siw, her husband Svein (the distant relation--duh), Jackson, and "his sweetheart" Dianna with the Kvarving's daughter in front. I believe this was a 7/10/05 article.

The story accompanying the photo talks about JB turning up at the birthday party in western Norway "at the end of a gravel road". Svein has an overseas visitor---a distant relation (JB) on vacation to the old country to greet family. "I am here on holiday to visit family", says JB, after "commanding cake & cognac" He is looking at a yellowed picture of an old man in a knitvest with a lampshade on his head and his hands around a workhorse. The man is Julius. "We are distant relations" either JB or Svein says. It goes on to describe that JB has been in Norway before but never to this area. It says both JB's parents are of Norwegian descent. JB describes meeting relations from his grandmother's side previously in Oslo but apparently is meeting these relations for the 1st time. JB is quoted as saying "it's important to have roots". He recalls knowing since he was little that he had family in Norway because they would send gifts to the Brownes.

Previous meetings would go too quickly (due to touring) and he was invited to return when there was more time. He laughs and says they should travel in the winter (to Norway) but that Dianna enjoys being warm. Then he mentions his grandmother telling him he descended from Vikings (which the reporter or JB says is remarkable since she was a strict Lutheran) and that most of his relatives are enthusiastic sailors but he hasn't inherited that trait. He mentions sailing with his father but otherwise descending from the sheepherder part of the family. The article offers some of Jackson's career info and ends with Jackson playing "My Stunning Mystery Companion"--a "song about staying in love" for the birthday girl. It concludes with Jackson seeking a photo of only himself & Siw. The norwegian site also links to an article on Jackson detailing his recording career and Hall of Fame entry in the US.

I have enjoyed Jackson in many concert settings but what a dream to have him come to celebrate a birthday!

And since we are thinking about happy things---Mr. Paris, do you know when your audio clip #34 interview was done? I'm wondering if Jackson's "assignment" to write happy songs was accomplished in The Naked Ride Home cd as I suspect it was.

Hope someone enjoys this info as much as I have,

Webmaster's Reply:

While I do act as a "moderator" on the www.jacksonscafe.com website, I don't have much to do with the photo section of the site. Hopefully posting your letter here will get the word out about this photograph and the story that goes with it.

I don't recall exactly where I took the audio clip #34 interview from. It might have been a BBC intereview from a few years ago. I agree that songs like "My Stunning Mystery Companion" from The Naked Ride Home might very well have been exactly what he was talking about writing in this sound byte.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: A Letter To Jackson Browne

Dear Jackson Browne,

I've wanted to thank you for many years. I know I'm just a face in the crowd, a stranger, not really anyone in your real life but, I can't help but feel that your soul has touched me through your music and has made my life richer and more meaningful. I suppose that the oddity of being a public person - is that you have a much larger circle than you could ever imagine.

Anyways... I just wanted you to know that your music is more than just a fad. I remember back in the early seventies when my father took me to Peaches music store in Cleveland and let me pick out my first album. I chose the Eagle's Greatest Hits. And, when my hippie brother left for California I acquired The Road and the Sky from his collection. Not long after that I purchased The Road. Now I'm well into my forties and when a song comes over the radio or a CD plays one of your albums, I stop whatever I'm doing and smile. It's the same feeling as seeing a true friend.

I had a fairly solitary childhood due to a birth defect that made me look different from other children and difficult to make friends at an early age. I learned to revel in music and art and let them fill gaps of loneliness. Yeah.I guess this is sounding pretty sappy but, I find that through the years your music always speaks to my heart and I can't thank you enough. Now I'm a fairly well adjusted adult. I'm active in my community and successful to a decent degree in all of my explorations of the working class.

Well...I just felt that I owed you a long overdue thank you. Thank you for caring about our world, our country and humanity. Thank you for sharing. You are a shining soul that this world is better off because you are here. I think, too, that you helped me bring out the artist in me. Beauty is only seen when one feels serene and I think your music helped bring a perspective that was felt and slowed me down enough to see.

Thanks, eh?
