Fan Letters & Reviews September 2005 General Fan Comments: Hi, My name is Cristina and I'm from Brazil. I've heard about Jackson Browne in 1977 when I bought the Running on Empty LP, and then I felt in love with the songs. Jackson Browne words talked and touched my heart. Two years ago a friend bring me from US the "Running on Empty" CD. Many years has passed but I feel the same emotion when I hear his songs. I have many dreams and one of them is to see a Jackson Browne show - I hope one day I can realize it. Is there any chance to see him in Brazil? Best regards, Submitted by: crisaraujof@ig.com.br (Cristina )
General Fan Comments: Wow Russ. The new audio this month is really nice and moving. Thanks for putting it up there. I appreciate his sharing it with his audience and you capturing it and sharing it on the website. Thanks again. P.s. I'm a transplanted New Orleanian. I was about 21 and I can still see in my mind's eye the apartment and the chair I sat in when I listened over and over and over again to the album version of Late for the Sky, at the moment my strongest early memory of Jackson's music and its place in my life. So, suddenly, I couldn't sign off without saying that, as I'm sure is true for all who visit here, my thoughts and prayers are with my fellows down there as they struggle to first get out of the horrors some are still living and then on with recovering and healing. I am relieved to be able to say that I will be heading down there - not sure yet whether it's to shelters in Texas or Louisiana but one or the other - to work with the survivors in helping them with their emotional and spiritual recovery. (I'll be working through the red cross mental health services.) I imagine part of my own coping tools while I'm there will include Jackson's music, for which I am already grateful! Wow. I had no idea that was coming out when I signed onto to thank you for the audio! And my p.s. ended up longer than my message. Well, thanks for being there. GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Hi Russ, As most fans who write... I have been a fan since the early 70's... that makes me pretty old... almost 50 now! The pleasure in writing is that I continue to enjoy Jackson Browne's music... his lyrics now feeling different... the meaning behind his words now based on many years of life experiences that bring new meaning. In 1976 I met Jackson Browne at a concert held at Kent State University. I was allowed backstage to show him a book of illustrations I made to many of his songs. Jackson reviewed my illustrations and told me that the book didn't deserve being in a room of many other items that fans give to him. I said, "if I am going to keep this book of illustrations... will you autograph it?" He was more than happy. His son (about age 3-4 at the time, Ethan) signed it too. Ethan wrote all of his letters of his name backwards and drew a box around each letter. I took a picture of Ethan and wonder to this day if he would get a kick out of his first autograph!! I still have my two $7.00 tickets (not torn) that say Front Floor. I enjoyed my front row seats and my second meeting with Jackson. (I was fortunate enough to meet him at a previous concert at Blossom Music Center, Ohio). A few years back I was reading one of Wayne Dyer's books and found out he was also a fan of Jackson Browne's. I attended a lecture and brought my book of illustrations with me. Wayne Dyer viewed the book and autographed the book as well. He also asked me to send the lyrics to the songs that I illustrated in my book. Today... for those fans who cherish the depth and breadth of Jackson's insights... I continue to share the book. I have only added one illustration for the song "Too Many Angels." I don't know if there would be any interest in reviewing this book of illustrations for "whatever purpose." If Jackson Browne were to tour in my area...I would certainly bring it with me and ask him to sign it again---- 30 years later. Much love and light to all who help make the music happen, Submitted by: mhhteach@adelphia.net (Deb) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Russ--haven't emailed for ages. The new website, I'm glad I'm sitting down. The audio collage. What a masterpiece. I couldn't have done better :) I know so many that think they could, but you nailed it. Thanks. :) Hope all is well in CA. Here in KS we pray for those in LA, MS, and AL. My god, such devistation. Anything from the JB camp that shies (sp) away from being political? It would be great to hear that from our fave. Sometimes silence IS golden, but after the tsunami, I expected to hear something from out west. Are we being censored in the Midwest? Surely not......we should be taking care of our own, you know what I mean? My husband and I--we've vacationed in NO, LA, especially the French Quarter--it's heartbreaking. Not to mention Mississippi and Alabama. We'd thought of taking our gulf vacations in MS and were told, don't bother. (We both draw on white sand beaches and can't seem to realize that they are not all like that) At any rate, Biloxi was at one time a destination. It deserves to be that again. I love the south. Please--these are FOLKS. FOLK music I'm rambling. At any rate, the new website is so beautius, thanks for all your hard work. If recognition were to be given, you should get the highest. NOT A JOKE. You believe, but the work you do is amazing. Had I not checked in to your website, I'd of had no idea an album was about to be released. YOU ARE APPRECIATED My husband's mother passed away just after my own mother did, although at that time, we were not together. His mother lived in New Smyrna Beach, FLA. We chose to sell her condo and not deal with the upkeep, etc. We often wonder if we did the right thing. Our goal was to always retire to FLA, we've recently decided to vacation there *for a long time* rather than to sell here and struggle there. We ride Harleys, and the land is flat there. Not much fun. We do have friends in FLA, but not enough now, to make that jump from a dream house that we have and keep changing/adding on to, to a place that might be the end all. Damn. I'm a Cancer, I have to be by the sea. Rock me on the water. Thanks for all you do, praying for us all. Submitted by: Sunnshyn58@aol.com (Coleen K., Topeka, KS - JB fan since 1976, thank you Louie) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: I think "Birds Of St Marks" is now one of my favorite songs on the acoustic album, maybe because it is new and fresh to me. I haven't listened to it a thousand times like all his other songs. I imagine it was on one of his early demo records that I no not have. Do you know if there is printed sheet music for this song, from previous song guitar/piano books? Maybe someone might know. Submitted by: tcvelbar@rumseyengineers.com (Tom C.) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: if i ever meet jackson browne, these are four questions i want to ask him (and maybe someone at there knows the answers so i won't have to wait to meet him): Submitted by: NAVYSCPORET@COX.NET GENERAL FAN COMMENTS (Ticket Available): Russ, As I have mentioned before, the site is great. Thanks for all of your work. I am in Ventura County, CA and will be at Avila Beach on Oct. 29th. My partner just backed out so I am in one of those awkward, "is anyone interested in buying this ticket or best offer" situations. It is Gold Circle. So, if this okay, thanks for your help. Again, great job on the site. Submitted by: jimcarrillo@earthlink.net (James C.) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: mr browne u r wicked, england loves you....your so cool Submitted by: TOPBUZZ92@aol.com CONCERT REVIEW: September 25 at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica, CA My husband and I went to the Songs of Strength benefit in Santa Monica for the victims of Katrina. This benefit was put together in a brief period of time and was an amazing accomplishment for those who organized it. It was at a Methodist church in Santa Monica so even I, a Jewish/Episcopalian, figured that "Naked Ride Home" or "Redneck Friend" would not be among Mr. Browne's choices. Luckily, I was not the one choosing the songs, as the ones he chose, "Rock Me on the Water" and "Before the Deluge" were a trifle more appropriate. It was kind of like a high school recital, where each artist (Dave Koz, K.D. Lange, Jackson Browne, Judith Owen, Keaton Simons and the Gwen Wyatt Chorale) did two songs. The Chrorale actually did three songs, but being a church, this seemed appropriate. It was a beautiful day in Santa Monica and despite it starting a bit late due to sound checks, was a big success and a lovely experience for all. Seeing a concert in a church was something I'd never done before, and not likely to do again, so I appreciated the opportunity to see a great show and give money to a worthy cause at the same time.
