Fan Letters & Reviews November 2005 GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: I have been a police officer for almost 23 years in New Jersey and a JB fan for almost 30. His music has got me through bad relationships, negative work experiences, and 9/11. I just drive around some nights at 0300 hrs and listen to Fountain of Sorrow, I'll do Anything, The Fuse etc... Thank you Jackson, you will probably never meet me but you helped me tremednously. Submitted by: BDL216@aol.com (Barry L) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Hi Russ: I guess you probably caught the radio show last night. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the acoustic songs sounded, even over the internet radio connection. I have too say that I really enjoyed listening to Jackson. He seems very comfortable telling stories and I guess it isn't suprising that he is comfortable in fornt of an audience after all these years. He was gracious to the fans that called in, but I'm sure every question in screened. I didn't catch the first hour and I was wondering if he said anything about Running On Empty DVD-A? It is supposed to come out Nov. 15. I know a fan asked last night about a DVD. He must realize that DVD offering are increasingly popular. So many musical artist/groups are putting concerts/videos onto DVDs. His fans would love to have another DVD other than just the "Going Home" one. Please let Jackson's "people" know. You do a great job with this site, thanks, Submitted by: kikikwin@hotmail.com (Frances) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Russ First time I have found your excellent site. At last there is a deal to release the new Acoustic album in the UK. I was lucky enough to see JB twice in a year in Brighton with band and solo - the man's talent is awesome. The acoustic set was the best evening of music I have ever heard. What I would really like to see is a release of Jackson's albums on high quality vinyl - surely Classic or Sundazed would take this up or even Simply Vinyl in the UK. My copy of Late for the Sky is nearly worn out and the CD remaster is very inferior in quality. I know there are some DVD-A productions coming but the technology just cannot get to the level of good old analogue. If you are listening JB or even you guys at Classic help us vinyl junkies out. (this message is from susan from newport RI who sent the message in June 2002 about the PPAC show. i'm on someone else's puter again, don't have my own) i do enjoy all the talking he does, although it's nice they have it on a separate track in case you want to go right to the music. i never understood why they put the intro to the load-out at the end of "nothing but time" instead of with Load Out or on a separate track. i am disappointed it doesn't say when and where the concerts are. and i read on here someone says Dublin is the best place in the world to live, so at least i know that much. and i noticed people in the audience seem to have accents, so that explains that. at least for some of the tracks. and he talks about the US so i knew it must be someplace away from here. i really like Birds of St. Marks which is a very pretty song. of course i've heard some of it on the Going Home video. will he have "shadow dream song" on vol. 2?? i've never heard that song even though i have the sheet music in a JB anthology music book ( i play piano) but i don't know what it's suppose to sound like so it's kinda hard for me to play. i am going to try to get the Tom Rush version downloaded and burned on a CD Looking forward to seeing JB again in concert sometime soon. maybe at the PPAC again , or Newport Folk Festival, or we have something called the Sunset Music Festival in downtown Newport every july. I would LOVE to see him there. maybe he would be too popular to play there. the place is pretty small.. but i can hope...saw david crosby (CPR) there, Cheap Trick, and Livingston Taylor (james' brother) who plays there every year as the closing concert. they have about 5 different concerts in July, last year they had Dionne warwick, among others. maybe some year JB.....although the PPAC would be good too....... TRIVIA QUESTION;; HOW MANY TIMES DOES JB SAY 'YOU KNOW' DURING THE INTRO BEFORE 'FOUNTAIN OF SORROW:"??? ANSWER: 17 Submitted by: NAVYSCPORET@COX.NET ALBUM REVIEW: Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 I just wanted to add my voice to those who are disappointed that Jackson's solo acoustic lp has no info on where and when each track and intro was recorded. No liner notes at all is very disappointing. Otherwise, I LOVE the album and look forward to the next Acoustic Live lp. I just hope that the next one includes liner notes and info re when and where. Thanks for your site. The venue was green grass by the bay here off of the golf course at the Avila Beach resort. We had a view of the calm Pacific past the bridge and a sand bar inlet to our left and the salmon pink Resort up the hill. We had lawn seats which worked out just fine as we had a 10 yr old boy with us who needed to stretch out and play etc. Barb from Grass Valley, Jill from Oregon, Kary from LA and Joanne from Boston and I all managed to find each other before the concert and altho we did not have seats together, we planned to meet afterwards for dinner, which we did on the San Luis Pier last night. The crowd was about 3000 they announced. GA seats were sold out. I was concerned about it being chilly and dressed too warmly. As the day heated up I ended up buying a concert t-shirt and ripping off the sleeves and neckline and tying it around my waist- bit the dust that shirt did for a good cause. I had the only concert halter top there. :) I just happened to have scissors and embroidery thread with me for the alteration as I had my Cursillo jacket with me that I am working on. Irene Kelley opened- never heard her before but loved her- Jude Johnstone was next- loved her- Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson next- loved them- Jackson closed, loved him. Great concert, great day. Cheers, set list Submitted by: DLWildflower@aol.com (Dana in Arroyo Grande) CONCERT REVIEW: October 29 at the Avila Beach Music Festival I wanted to thank "anonymous" for submitting the play list for the songs Jackson Browne played at the Avila Beach Music Festival. I'd never heard of two of them ISong for Adam and Two of Me Two of You) and was trying to remember their names. Frankly, by the time he went on all at our table had been visiting, enjoying the music in the warm sun and drinking wine for almost 5 hours, so we were all seeing "two of me and two of you" by that time and did not recall what he was singing. For those who were not there, there was a lot of merchandise unsold which is available on ebay as well as the autographed guitars that were not sold. The sweatshirts were very reasonable at the concert ($25) and are even less now, I think $20. Many folks were waiting to buy them to have the performers autograph them after the show at the reception, but since the promotor neglected to inform said performers, none of them showed up. With the amount of wine consumed at the concert, the promoter could have dressed people up as Herb Pederson, Chris Hillman and Jackson Browne, sent them to the reception, and I doubt if many of us would have known the difference at that point in the evening. It was a beautiful setting and a lovely day with a lot of good music, nice people and way too many bottles of wine. Submitted by: lindamose@sbcglobal.net ALBUM REVIEW: Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 My wife just got me the new solo CD and it sounds great. I was at the show in Dublin last Nov. and liked the track where he congratulates Ireland for being voted the number one place to live.It was a great concert and a great trip too, the CD brought back some good memories. Submitted by: Jack.Connolly@wiltel.com ALBUM REVIEW: Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 I recognized two of Jackson's "Solo Acoustic, Vol 1" performances: These Days and The Birds of St. Marks were recorded on 3-6-04, at Royce Hall, UCLA. What a great show! Submitted by: anonymous ALBUM REVIEW: Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 Hi Russ, Well, add my list to those who was disappointed that the new CD failed to note where/when the songs were recorded (I also miss the liner notes). I purchased mine the first day it went on sale and I got the Best Buy bonus track of "The Rebel Jesus". Paid $11.99 but have seen it selling for $14.99 plus; you'd think we would get liner notes putting that much money down. All and all though, I enjoyed getting the live experience of a Jackson Browne concert. He surprised me with how true he kept to the original version of songs. Really liked the version of "Too Many Angels" (actually prefer it to the original on the "I'm Alive" CD; simply haunting). I purchased 5 of them and donated them to my local, independent Community Radio station, WMNF-88.5 FM for their fall marathon to raise money to keep broadcasting. I coupled the CD with Mark Bego's new biography on Jackson ("His Life and Music"), and was happy to find out that they sold out immediately, netting $450 for the station!.....I guess Jackson still has plenty of fans in Tampa. By the way, if you want to listen to a great radio station that plays deep cuts from Jackson's albums (not just "Running on Empty" or "The Load Out"), go to WMNF.org and give a listen. Usually hear Jackson type music (singer/songwriter) Monday - Saturday, 6:00 a.m - 9:00 a.m. EST. It was a truly spectacular weekend! We flew into Bakersfeld, and were pleasantly surprised by the mountainous drive to the coast. My friend even saw prairie dogs. We stayed in Pismo Beach, right on the ocean. It was her first time to see the Pacific. The day of the concert, the weather was superb! The festival grounds were adjacent to a golf course, and right next to the water. In fact, there were people sitting out in their kayaks watching the concert. It lasted all day, with Irene Kelly, Jude Johnstone, Herb Peterson and Chris Hillman. Jackson was on last. When it was his turn, he just walked out and sat down. No introduction, no nothing. Just him. Just great! We were right up front, and were able to stand on the side of the stage, maybe 25 feet from him. Even after they made us sit down, I was in the first row. It was getting cold by then, but the music was awesome! Totally captivating, as Jackson always is. We made some really cool friends. All in all I would say it couldn't have been more perfect. The promoter, Dan Kitchen's wife was having contractions during the concert. The baby was supposed to be called Jack, but they were going to add 'son' if he came that day. Thanks for the site! You do a wonderful job!! Submitted by: alvarez567@aol.com (Lanie A.) CONCERT REVIEW: October 29 at the Avila Beach Music Festival I have been going to most of his Southern California shows for over 20 years now and have never heard "Song For Adam" live. It's my favorite of his older songs and I pretty much gave up on hearing it again. I nearly fell off my chair! I couldn't believe he finally played it. It was gorgeous. He was joined by Jude Johnstone's fiddle player (can't remember her name). I'm hoping it will make it onto Acoustic Volume 2......maybe with David Lindley? Anyway, I agree with the others, the day was beautiful as was all the music. Check out Jude Johnstone. Jackson sang harmony on one of her songs that was beautiful.."Wounded Heart" ???? Irene Kelley is also worth checking out. She's out of Nashville and has written songs for Trisha Yearwood and Alan Jackson. She reminded me of Nanci Griffith. Can't wait until we're all discussing his New songs!!!!!!! Submitted by: Anneworkman@aol.com SET LIST: November 5 at the Friar's Club in Beverly Hills, CA "Walk Across The World" Benefit Concert 1. Before the Deluge Submitted by: anonymous GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: I just bought the new solo album. It is great to hear the songs played live just by JB. I been listening to Jackson through the last 30 years. I have seen him 5 times in concert. The last one was in 2003 in a place called Esbjerg in Denmark. I had the chance to meet Jackson one tine in L.A., CA back in 1985, when he came into a small club as a guest. He is really a very nice person. Two years after i met him after a concert in Hamburg, Germany, when he was with Darryl Hannah. After all these years he is still a fantastic singer and songwriter. And the most importend thing is, that he is always a honest person who doesn't go for the money, but for what he feels. I'm looking forward to his next album or concert! Submitted by: hans.henning@mail.tele.dk (Hans H., Denmark) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Mary Ramsey is the name of the viola player who helped Jackson at Avila Beach. She was awesome and deserves mention. I don't know what it is about Jackson, but it's always like seeing an old friend when he walks out on stage. Just heartwarming. Thanks again for all you do, Russ. Submitted by: anonymous GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Just heard on Radio 2 that Jackson will be doing concerts in Spain with David Lindley. I would implore Jackson and David to come to Bonnie Scotland (Glasgow specifically). I have seen Jackson several time - both solo and with band but never with the Polyester King!! I cannot rest until I have seen them play together live in Scotland. Submitted by: alexmarkie@btinternet.com GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: I had the great great pleasure of seeing Jackson Browne on BBC1 last Sunday 20th November 2005 on The Heaven and Earth Show. Not a show I would normally tune in to but I wanted to see Jackson and what he would be saying and playing. It was lovely and really warmed my heart! best regards Submitted by: Reception@earlyyearschildcare.co.uk (Sandy of Brighton) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Hi all. I just wanted to write some thoughts on Jackson. He has helped me through so many tough times....and helped me enjoy the good ones...........I am always in such awe of his talent. he has a great soothing, strong voice, beautiful musical writing style.....but I am constantly blown away by his lyrical abilities. I have never heard anyone write such remarkalbe words to describe our lives, emotions, events. I am planning a trip to Cleveland this coming fall to see his much exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.. though of course he should have his own totally dedicated to him. We love you Jackson...u r one of a kind.........whose words will live, inspire, and encourage forever. Submitted by: tklukie@twcny.rr.com (Shelley K.) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Dear Jackson, I have listened to your music since 1974 and am still a school teacher but now in another state. My first boyfriend introduced me to Late for the Sky, the album, back when records were records not discs. I have loved your music for a long time, and while I was singing along with one of my Greatest Hits cd's this morning on the way to school I decided to try and look you up on here. Your music is some of the best there is, my taste is varied, but in the 30's I came back to listening to you and in my 40's also, I also replaced every cassette that ever wore out from all the playing and I also replace my cd's if I can't replace them by repairing the scratch, this happens in my Sante Fe, while driving sometimes. I love to listen to the lyrics you write, and am wondering if you wrote most of the Eagles music back in the 70's for Frey and Henley? I love Henley and don't have any of Glen frey's stuff but would if I had time to search it out. I will always love your voice and the way you played the acoustic guitar the time we came to see you in Bowling Green or is it Nashville, not sure its been so long ago, but I still remember how much we loved being there and becoming engrossed in the music with you. God bless You and Have a great Christmas. I love For Everyman, as well as In the Shape of a Heart. Love, Submitted by: mdwwilkerson@yahoo.com (Diane W.)
