Fan Letters & Reviews June 2006 GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Does anyone know how to get hold of Jackson Browne? I live in Toronto, Canada and haven't seen him in years. All tours that I've looked at recently are in Europe, a liitle too far to go. I know he's doing some concerts in NY state for John Hall but not the same as a concert. Anybody know any more? GENERAL FAN COMMENTS I have always played music to my two young sons because I felt it was important to them to listen to and experience as much music as possible in their lives (espeacially Jackson Browne). Recently my eldest (6 years old) has started to really appreciate Jackson's music. His favourite songs are: The Dancer Lives in the Balance I have had to make him some of his own CD's so he can listen to him whenever he wants to (obviously my CD's are to precious for him to just borrow them) He is now totally obsessed by Jackson's music and he has even started to convert his friends at school. Now him and his brother and his best friend are actually desperate to see him in concert. I am finding it hard to explain to them that he doesn't just appear at the local theater(King's Lynn Corn Exchange) when they want him to. His next UK shows are to far away for me to take them to, so Jackson if you read this could you please see to it that on your next UK tour that you try and at least get to Cambridge or better still King's Lynn ( Morrisey has just played here so the venue is definitely on the up). If only he would I think I would have the happiest and possibly Youngest Jackson Browne musical convert in the whole of the UK. Mr. Browne sings "These Days"...apparently a favorite among many; however, for me it is more personal. The song perfectly described my father. At least the last few years of his life. I cry every time I hear it...tears of joy, sadness, love. He was an imperfect man in a judgmental world and he never lived up to his own expectations. He felt a failure. The final year of his life he didn't speak much...didn't play the guitar or sing....his spark was gone. He is missed greatly. Thank you...thank you for your beautiful description of my father's life and lack thereof. Submitted by: spm@prblaw.com (Shael M.) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS Salute, First let me say that in my youth I moved to Los Angeles from the frozen graveyard of Portland, Maine, with the immature notion and innocence of believing I could actually meet J.B. How I look back on that now in my late 40's (or close enough)I thought I could find Jackson walking La Cienega Blvd - which I could not even pronounce the time! Moved back to the frozen graveyard a few years and tears ago. Thought I was all grown up at 47 years old now. Still wish I could run into Mr. Browne to explain how much the lyrics ( and hopefully the man is a true reflection of such) mean to me. I am putting together a series of photographs and poetry for a dying friend. Much of what I will use comes from Jackson's lyrics. Strange how this all comes back around. Just one time, if I could have met Jackson at Jerry's Famous Deli, might feel a little more justified in my use of his poetry. Have to use it though, it's the only thing that makes sense for this friend. Thanks Jackson. John Hall was in the band Orleans, and either wrote or co-wrote the well known "Dance With Me". Although I can't even vote for him, I thought it would be a great opportunity to see Jackson in a small setting. There were somewhere around 60 to 100 people in attendance, but I am not very good at such estimates. A woman named Dar Williams sang first, and she was great. She got a warm reception from the audience. John Hall spoke about his campaign, and he also sang and played guitar. Eventually Jackson arrived, saying something about his plane being delayed. He performed several songs alone and with John Hall. It was rainy outside, but other than that the evening was perfect. Very informal, lots of casual talking and musical discussions about guitars and tuning, etc. Jackson talked about how he had a fat lip because he had walked into a closed sliding glass door at the home of the guy who fixes his guitars. (I didn't notice anything) He also talked about how much of a sacrifice it was for John Hall to be interrupting his musical career to run for office. I can't even think about all the songs he played or the comments made. One funny part was when he talked about the song "Somebody's Baby." He referred to a woman named Valerie (?) who complained about the second verse, in which the girl tells her friend "she must be somebody's baby." Valerie who was arrested years ago with Jackson after a protest supposedly called to complain to Jackson about the verse, being that she was independent, etc. Then Jackson said his therapist liked the song, and said "It's right, Jackson, people do need each other." There was a very relaxed warm feeling, and as usual Jackson was gracious- After the music ended, posters from the event were handed out and people went back outside under the tent - John Hall and Dar Williams were on hand, and eventually Jackson came out and mixed with people just as if you were at a backyard picnic - finally I got to say some lame remark like, "I've enjoyed your music for years" and I think he may have said something back, gave me an apologetic sort of look as he was whisked away for photos with the candidate. I cannot remember if I shook his hand - my daughter swears I did - but how do you sum up 30 years of appreciation and admiration in one brief encounter? I also felt that it must be hard to be so famous and have people wanting a piece of you all the time, so I did not want to be obnoxious, but what a thrill anyway. If anyone else was there, I'd be curious to hear their take on the night. Jackson's voice is in such great shape. His fingers move with such eloquence and ease. The synchronised harmonies from Dar Williams, Peter Seeger and John Hall was magnificant. You would have never known it was raining cats and dogs outside, because inside the barn, altho it was chilled to the air, the ambience and the feeling was one of warmth, as tho the sun was shining brightly and clearly from all 4 corners of the barn. The show opened with Dar Williams solo, and she is worth her pound in flesh. Her voice is full and harmonious and she can play her acoustic guitar exquisitely. The show was over two hours and the time just zoomed bye. There were a few political statements from the artists, encouraging us to be proactive and get Mr. Hall into Congress. But I must say that the most bizarre thing was the residual feeling the very next day. I was purchasing a "wrap" in a store in my hometown and the owner of the store was just being irritated to the max from the customers coming into the store and busting his chops about not making the sandwishes fast enough, not this, not that....and when it was my turn, the owner was just ready to blow his brains out infront of us from exaserbation....so I gently and kindly invited him to "unload" on me and "tell me about his rotten morning" and I just stook there waiting from him to share and he did....and I kept saying - is there any more to it? are there any more clients bugging you? I was so focused on him venting....and I was trying to help him unload... and I've NEVER done this before. And it all is because Jackson's energy is so grounded, so pure in patience, kindness and compassion.... Yes I had the pleasure of briefly meeting him, but being a energy worker (massage therapist) I can tune into peoples energy - and he's amazingly pure, rock solid and grounded. The only two other people I've ever met in my life with Jacksons kind of energy are His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere. I have been blessed to meet these three awesome amazing human beings. I so look forward to jackson coming back to new york to help john hall....I LOVE the song power and look forward to hearing it again with acoustic guitars. Jackson - thank you for taking time out of your recording and sunny life in california schedule to trapse all the way across the country to bring your boots and wet gear to sing up a storm for John. Thank you so much ...you not only brought money and hope, you brought peace and healing on many many levels. please come again soon. I look forward to being in your aura of NON ANGRY energy. Sincerely - Submitted by: anonymous CONCERT REVIEW: June 10, 2006 at Steel Bridge Songfest 2 in Sturgeon Bay, WI The 2nd annual Sturgeon Bay Song Festival on June 10 was another great success. The highlight of the all day show was the finale where JB and the entire group of young songwriters did a rollicking 20 minute jam. Jackson also wrote a song specifically for the event with Pat Mc Donald. It was entitled "Steel Yourself". It was a reference to the old steel bridge in town that the organization is working to save, but also refers to an individual's struggle for values in today's world. THere were many talented young singer-songwriters like Craig Greenberg and Chris Aaron , who you will be hearing from in the near future. Take care, and thanks, Submitted by: alfaella@yahoo.com (Al) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Hi Russ, First of all, thanks for creating your website dedicated to Jackson Browne. My problem is, I've read countless letters / reviews of great JB shows over the years, but I wonder, why not even a single show in S.E. Asia, namely Singapore or Malaysia? Please give us diehard lifetime fans a chance to see JB live at least once before we die without having to travel halfway around the world. Please do your best to help us out. Thanks and may the music keep our spirits alive... Submitted by: recreation@thepulai.com.my (Aziz A.) GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Hi Russ! A while back I remember posting a letter indicating my loss was someone else's gain (translation: I had JB tickets I couldn't use). Once again, I find myself unable to traipse across the country to see JB and I have great tickets for Friday's Santa Monica High School show ($100 each, Row M, Center, Seats 110 and 111 -- snagged them as soon as they went on sale -- tickets three rows closer were $250). In keeping with the JB spirit, I would never charge a premium -- am just looking for face value and shipping. If anyone can use, please email me. Thanks!
