For more information, please visit www.rhino.com/Digital45. To download the track, to go iTunes and search for "Somebody's Baby / The Crow On the Cradle [Digital 45]". WEBMASTER'S NOTE: The quality of the artwork that comes with this Digital 45 really sucks. It looks like someone stuck their thumb through it! It's hard for me that Rhino Records would allow something this awful through their quality control. But on the positive side, the sound of "The Crow On The Cradle" is pretty good.

10 November 2008. BROWNE MAKES WINE PLANS Posted in: Entertainment - PR-inside Entertainment News. Rocker JACKSON BROWNE is set to become the latest celebrity vintner - he is contemplating turning his Hollister Ranch home in Santa Barbara, California into a vineyard. The singer/songwriter feels sure he has the perfect soil and weather conditions to grow grapes on his remote estate - but he's still not sure he wants to become a "gentleman farmer". Browne says, "This area has always been a place where I've had a house, tended a garden... I've often thought that I should do it (become a vintner) while I can still enjoy it. But I may never do it. "I'm a little worried that if I started to farm out here it wouldn't be the hideaway that it is for me now. "I want to be a gentleman farmer, but I don't want to work very hard."
Jerry Haywood is selling his Ovation Guitar. Jerry is Doug Haywood's brother and the guitar used to be owned and played by Doug. Here is what Jerry says about the guitar: "Doug owned this guitar for about 25 years. He gave it to our mom and she gave it to me. Doug told me he thinks it is a 1970 model. The model number is 1121-4. The Serial number is F-095. The action is like butter. It just doesn't get any better on an acoustic guitar. It is factory acoustic/electric. Stays in tune beautifully and has twice the tone and volume of most guitars of similar body size. Very little age wear. It comes with the hardshell case it has lived in for too many years to remember. I will miss this guitar, but with my neuropathy in my hands, I can't play any longer and this guitar deserves to be played and loved." Jerry also has a "Hold Out" jacket for sale. Find out more here.

Two of Jackson Browne's old high school friends both seem to be back in the music circles:
STEVE NOONAN released an album on Elektra Records back in 1968 which was one of the first albums to include songs written by Jackson. Steve co-wrote a number of songs with Jackson and co-wrote the very first Top 40 hit for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, "Buy For Me The Rain". The album, Steve Noonan had a very strong Tom Rush feel to it and Steve has indicated that Elektra wanted a Tom Rush style folk album while he really wanted to do a rock and roll album; he wasn't happy with the result. Steve has a much greater vocal range than the album showcased and while he never released a follow-up, he has continued to write some great songs and has even performed occasionally through the years. Now Steve Noonan has a new album in the works and it should be available soon. You can hear some samples on his MySpace page at: www.myspace.com/stevenoonanmusic
GREG COPELAND released an album called Revenge Will Come back in 1982. Jackson Browne produced it. It was really a great album. Many of you will be familiar with Greg for writing the song "Candy" which Jackson covered on Lives In The Balance. He also co-wrote some of Jackson's early songs with him such as "The Fairest Of The Seasons" which was on the Nina Demo and Nico's album Chelsea Girl back in 1967. Greg Copeland has been recording a new album -- much of it in Jackson Browne's studio -- and it will be released October 7 on Jaskson's Inside Recordings label. The new CD was produced by Greg Leisz is tentatively titled "Diana and James". More information coming soon.

The goal of the campaign is to raise a million voices, with the help of some incredibly generous celebrities, in order to spread the word about the atrocities in Burma that have been continuing to fly under the radar. Lots of email is coming in asking about Jackson Browne's plans for a new CD. Here is what I've heard at this time: We can probably expect a new studio album of new songs sometime next year (2007), followed by the releases of both "Solo Acoustic Vol 2" and another live album from his recent tour with David Lindley the following year (2008). I'm not sure what order those two CDs will be released in, or how far apart they will be released. That probably depends a great deal on the studio album. Of course these plans are very tentative and are subject to change. Originally I had heard the studio album was planned for this year, but the tour with David Lindley seems to have pushed it back. I haven't heard anything about tour plans at this time.

The Fox Television Production of "America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story," which aired on TNT in January, will be modified to delete references to Browne in two scenes, Browne publicist Michael Jensen said Thursday in a statement. In a related development, Viacom-owned VH1 agreed to delete a scene with similar references that aired in the program "When Cameras Cross the Line." A written apology will be broadcast at the beginning of the show in future airings. Browne "is appreciative that the producers moved so quickly to correct the program and apologize," his manager, Donald Miller, said in a statement.
Billboard Magazine also reported that: "A written apology has been added to the beginning of the program. It states: 'In a previous version of this program, we incorrectly reported an alleged incident involving singer Jackson Browne and actress Daryl Hannah. Mr. Browne has always denied that such an incident occurred, and local authorities have reported to the media that based upon their investigation, the incident previously reported in our program did not occur. We have deleted that material from our program, and we apologize to Mr. Browne for its inclusion.' "

An AP release (compare to AP release in March 2002) that was picked up by newspapers and television stations across the country stated:
Rock star Jackson Browne and two other songwriters settled a lawsuit that claimed they were underpaid for their contributions to one of the Eagles' most popular albums. Browne, Jack Tempchin and J.D. Souther sued Warner-Chappell Music Inc. in February for more than $10 million. An attorney for Brown and the others announced the settlement Friday but refused to discuss specifics. Warner-Chappell representatives did not immediately return calls for comment. According to the lawsuit, the songwriters were supposed to be paid a fluctuating royalty rate for their contributions to "Eagles - Their Greatest Hits, 1971-1974." At the time of the suit, the rate was 7.5 cents per song.
Instead, they have been paid only about 2.5 cents per song since 1975 for the hits "Already Gone," "Best of My Love," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and "Take it Easy," according to the suit, which sites an audit performed in 2000. The album has sold more than 26 million copies, according to the lawsuit. Tempchin wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and co-wrote "Already Gone." Souther co-wrote "Best of My Love" and Browne co-wrote "Take it Easy." The co-writers on the songs were Eagles members Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who were not included in the lawsuit.

This year's annual Verde Valley School Benefit Concert has been cancelled. Here's the press release, which was released August 7th late in the afternoon:
The 13th annual Verde Valley School Music Festival to benefit the Native American Scholarship Project at the Hamilton Warren Amphitheatre in Sedona, Arizona has been cancelled. The concert will not be held this year because it became impossible for the concert producers and the Verde Valley School to find a workable date that did not conflict with important school activities and the individual schedules of the performers.
In trying to coordinate this year's event, the concert producers were faced with a new administration at the school, which was in transition during the early planning stages of the concert this past spring; the new administration only became finalized in late July.
The concert, which had been held for the past eleven years, provided funds for Native American scholars to attend the Verde Valley School, and to further prepare them for college. To date, the benefit event has raised over $712,000 for Native American scholars, and has been directly responsible for financing the tuition of more than 37 students to attend the Verde Valley School. In 1997, as a direct result of the benefit concert, $1.7 million, now known as the Berry endowment, was donated to the school to perpetuate the scholarships of Native students; before his death, Mr. Berry had attended every single concert since its inception in 1990.
Jackson Browne remains committed to the Native American Scholarship Project, which he and former Verde Valley School headmaster John Ulsh created in 1990, and wishes the new administration the best success in their first year at Verde Valley.
Any questions regarding the cancellation of the 13th annual Verde Valley School Music Festival should be directed to Jensen Communications at 626-585-9575.
Jackson Browne will tour with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers this month. For these concerts, Jackson will perform with his band: Mark Goldenberg on guitar, Mauricio "Fritz" Leewak on drums, Kevin McCormick on bass, Jeff Young on keyboards, and Jennifer Gross on backing vocals. GET THERE EARLY!! Jackson will be doing sound check around 5:00 P.M. most evenings and he does different songs at sound check than during his set. Also some nights he could go on a bit earlier than the scheduled start time. It's Tom Petty's crew, so he has no control over this.

As far as the Verde Valley benefit in Sedona this year... it is still undecided. Jackson really wants to do it and I'm told he even has a tentatively lineup (very secretive and hush-hush), but there seems to be some discussion with the school about what the exact date will be. They are hoping to have the details worked out soon and expect to make an announcement in the very near future.

Last December, the son of Richie Hayward, drummer for the band Little Feat, longtime friends and musical collaborators with Jackson was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma for a long period of time. He is out of the coma and recently was released from the hospital. However, the rehabilitation costs as well as other hospital bills not covered by insurance are staggering. As a result, the Guacamole Fund, a non profit organization that helps musicians and their relatives cover the costs of catastrophic accidents and illnesses, is raising money to help pay for some of these bills. Their website is located at: www.guacfund.org. News on this site can also be found on Little Feat's website www.littlefeat.com.

An AP release that was picked up by newspapers and television stations across the country stated:
Songwriters Jackson Browne, Jack Tempchin, and J.D. Souther have sued Warner Chappell Music Inc. for more than $10 million, claiming they were underpaid for their contributions to one of the Eagles' most popular albums.
"It is with deep regret that we file this lawsuit but are left with no alternative," said Donald Miller, Browne's manager and the plaintiffs' spokesman. "All of our efforts to amicably resolve the matter have been ignored."
According to the lawsuit, filed Monday in Los Angeles, the songwriters were supposed to be paid a fluctuating royalty rate that is currently at 7.5 cents per song for their contributions to "Eagles - Their Greatest Hits, 1971-1974." Instead, they have been paid only about 2.5 cents per song since 1975 for the hits "Already Gone," "Best of My Love," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and "Take it Easy," according to the suit, which cites an audit performed in 2000.
The album, meanwhile, has sold 26 million copies, according to the lawsuit, which seeks $10 million in back royalties plus punitive damages.
Tempchin wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and co-wrote "Already Gone." Souther co-wrote "Best of My Love" and Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy." The co-writers on the songs were Eagles members Don Henley and Glen Frey, who were not included in the lawsuit.

Jackson Browne's first 6 albums are remastered for CD. The February edition of ICE Magazine says: The Elektra Label is in the midst of overhauling the sound quality on many of its catalog CDs and has already manufactured and shipped several of the upgraded versions. Jackson Browne's For Everyman and Running On Empty... have all been remastered and will start appearing on store shelves before long. The remastered versions will be clearly marked with an identifying sticker on the shrink-wrap... Jackson Browne's upgrades were handled by his own engineers... The packaging for all the discs remains the same... but when they'll appear on store shelves depends on a number of factors. Jackson Browne's entire Asylum catalog has already been remastered, and the new tapes are in the label's possession; all they're waiting for is new production orders from Elektra's distribution wing... And then there's the matter of how much old product is sitting in Elektra's distribution pipeline, including warehouses, which is an album-by-album scenario... Elektra will not be raising the price on the remastered CDs." Elektra's Vice President of Marketing, Brian Cohen is also quoted in the article as saying: "There's no rush [to release the remastered CDs] because there's no event, necessarily, happening with any of these artists." [Webmaster's Note: I guess he doesn't consider the 25th anniversary of the release of Jackson's debut album much of an event!]
