GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Hi Russ, I don't get much browsing time these days but with the Xmas break dragging on a bit this year, I've just had a random dip into the letters pages over the last few years. Its where even a casual observer could see just how much Jacksons music has come to mean to so many people over the years. How long have I been pretty fanatical? Since I picked up a poor quality second hand copy of For Everyman two weeks before Late for the Sky was released in the UK. By that time I already had the first album and the very young Jackson Browne had already totally got to me. He just seemed to be speaking foe me and side 2 of lfts had become for me, the best ever side of recorded music ever made. Still is, again personal choice but until Sky Blue and Black in particular and I'm alive in general, nothing ever came close to For a Dancer and those other great songs.

Its a long and complicated set of circumstances that led me to spend an hour in Warner Bros offices getting drunk with and interviewing Warren Zevon a month before he supported Jackson in London in 1976. I was the first person to interview him in London that actually knew his music and he was impressed by that. I guess I drove him nuts asking stuff about Jackson but by the time he'd worked his way through a bottle of Vodka and me a quarter bottle of scotch he didn't seem to mind. I loved that album anyway, still do. I left him with a promise that he d take me backstage at Jacksons London gig but although I went to the show and saw Jackson perform for the first time, I bottled the chance. That night Jackson did for a dancer with Lindley playing fiddle stood over him at the piano, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I've probably seen him 25 plus times since and every time there have been amazing highlights but that was the best musical moment of my entire life! As an aside to the Zevon story, I went to see Al Stewart the same night, spent pre and apre show backstage and got hideously drunk. In the taxi to my mate Martins flat I decided to listen to my interview from earlier and managed to wipe the whole thing!! I did a small piece for a mag called Radio and record news from memory but what a pity to lose those magical memories. I should have given up drinking there and then but that didn't happen.

New subject, I now appear with a Sports talk show in theatres around the country and have appeared in many theatres that I have seen Jackson play at. Here's a question for the promoters , why not put him on in a couple of beautiful small acoustically magnificent theatres such as the Stables in wavendon(in Cleo Lanes back garden). I'd even offer to underwrite it. 450 people, £100 each, no promo costs because the hardcore fans would pay that to be in close proximity and even maybe an extra £50 to charity for a reception for 100 people to have a photo with him(45 minutes) and a magical night or even 2or 3 nights. £120k for 3 nights after theatre costs £20k for a good cause and absolutely zero hassle for anyone concerned. I'd be there for 3 nights as a paying guest or as a co-promoter. Sound all good don't you think?

A Happy New Year to you and your site readers Take it easy!!

Hey Russ,

I know you're on the West Coast, but thought you might like to know about this. I hope it inspires a JB fan gathering in NYC! Thanks.

JACKSON BROWNE TRIBUTE SHOW

I'm delighted to announce my band and I are performing a tribute show to the songs of Jackson Browne next month. We're so honored that B.B. King's in NYC (bbkingblues.com) invited us to perform a set of Jackson Browne classics from Doctor My Eyes to Running on Empty along with a couple of his album masterpieces.

Our band, For Everyfan, started in April 2009 when I began rehearsals with Howard Fields, former longtime drummer for another singer/songwriter legend - Harry Chapin. Along with guitarist extraordinaire Ethan Fiks and bassist Lenny Nelson (Roberta Flack, Chuck Berry, Ronnie Spector), we'll be performing a 45 minute set on Monday, February 8 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12 advance / $14 door.

Following the show is Heart Like a Wheel, a fantastic tribute to Linda Ronstadt. The evening is billed as "Remembering the California Sound of the 1970's."

It would be wonderful to meet up with Jackson Browne fans before and after the show and talk shop!

BB Kings does a lot of tribute nights to the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, etc. and is interested in putting a Jackson Browne tribute in the regular rotation if people come and enjoy the show. Original acts playing BB Kings this year include Oleta Adams, Jerry Lee Lewis, Patti LaBelle, Southside Johnny, etc. and past notable acts include B.B. King, The Beach Boys, Dr. John, Etta James, etc.

We've put our heart and soul into this tribute to the music we love so much! Let the music keep our spirits high.
