GENERAL FAN COMMENTS: Reply to letter above

Terry: I finally got through to the Drury Lane Theatre at 9.25 on the day the tickets went on sale only to be told that the best seats available in the stalls were in Row U!! I can't believe those tickets were sold out 25 minutes into the box office releasing them for sale!! But hey ho.....I got tickets and anywhere I hear Jackson play is fab. Enjoy the show.

PLAY REVIEW: "COMMON BONDS"

My girlfriend and I enjoyed it very much. It's set in various locations around San Francisco and San Diego and follows four sets of siblings with all the love/hate/common bonds that they have. I met the cast at the ASL fundraiser in December that Jackson Browne performed at and they are all very good, particularly Ben Blair, who played the brother of the hearing impaired actress, Jody Stevenson. I like to think that it was Ben's acting ability, not the fact that he is young and cute and talked to me in the parking lot about our mutual favorite, John Mayer, that I thought he stole the show although everyone was excellent.

It's a small theatre, holds 60 when full. Jan Alejandro, who wrote the play, wrote songs when he was younger and later toured with Jackson among others. They opened the show with "The Pretender" and did two other of Jackson's songs, neither of which I recognized, as I actually haven't heard very many of his CDs. They did have to say at the beginning that it was Jackson Browne before they played part of "The Pretender" as most of the audience wouldn't have known who he was. . . I really enjoyed the play, but think they should have dropped that first song and just played the other two without mentioning the name because it made it obvious that most people didn't have a clue who was singing. But, again, I enjoyed the play and probably will look into more of the little theatres that are numerous in the Studio City/Sherman Oaks/North Hollywood area here.

I love all the 70s music (Jackson, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, et al) but it's hard for me to remember that that was 30 years or more now! And, of course, I didn't buy "Late for the Sky" or the first CD until a couple of weeks ago so I'm still listening to old stuff 35 years later.

(The back of the program says "Rhino salutes Fire Rose Productions and Jackson Browne for making a difference in the arts community." I noticed special thanks were given to Graham Nash among others, but they didn't say for what, and to Jackson for his help with the ASL fundraiser.)

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

I just wanted to make a comment of the price of tickets for Jackson's and David's upcoming tour of Australia in April and in particular their Melbourne concert. I'm a great fan of both Jackson and David and went to their first concerts in Australia in Sydney in the late-70's but I find it hard to justify paying $129 plus a booking fee which makes the ticket about $140. When I compare what the same tour tickets go for in Europe (30 euros, around $50 australian) it really irks me. On a recent holiday in Italy I managed to see Van Morrison by chance in Lucca for 35 euros so I imagine the 30-40 euros price range is the norm for tickets in Europe whereas here in Australia we are constantly paying in excess of $100 to see overseas artist. In March I have tickets for the Port Fairy folk festival and can see artists of the quality of Richard Thompson, Mary Black, Paul Kelly and Harry Manx for a 3 day ticket of $160. I guess it comes down to the distance to travel to Australia and the economies of scale. As much as I would really love to go to the Melbourne show I will spread my hard-earned cash around and see some of overseas "b-list" performers who will appear at a more realistic ticket price.
