Jackson Browne - Fan Letters & Reviews

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Well it is great to know that Jackson is in the studio working on his new record.

If there is an upside to his not having a 2000 tour, I guess that none of us will have to worry about getting caught under the wheels of his tour bus.

With the Democratic National Convention going on in L. A. this summer, Jackson might want to have his tour bus handy at home. He can use it to roll over any Democratic nasties when things arn't bound to be improving. Thanks for the favors Jackson!

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Hi Russ! My name is Jamie Steelman, and I am quite possibly the youngest die hard Jackson Browne fan that you have heard from. I am 21 years old, and have a lot to learn about life, but I know for sure that Jackson Browne has both inspired and intrigued me through his music, his life, and his continuous involvement in charity work. He is by far my idol, my dream, and my motivation to keep working at what I want to do with my life. I am shocked that there are not more web sites out there about him, and am extremely grateful for the wonderful page you have about him, I visit here about once a week, and am always excited to see whats new, and read all the letters and reviews. I was hoping that I could get some advice... I am trying to expand my collection of JB stuff, I have all the CD's and the Going Home Video, some recent concert T-shirts and a guitar tab collectors book... but that just doesn't seem like enough lately, I NEED MORE!!!

I want some older memorabilia, mostly in search of any old concert t shirts, I remember when I was about 4 years old my dad took a picture with me and we were both wearing JB concert t shirts, they were real eighties looking, but now today, they are no where to be found... I know that they are out there -- so where can I find them??? Please help, or post this to see if any other fans could lead me to the right place... no where in Kansas City has any ideas on where I can look, help me !!! Thanks so much and remember to "believe in whatever may lie in those things that money can't buy"..........

Webmaster's Reply: I have yet to find a place on the Internet or elsewhere that sells Jackson Browne t-shirts and merchandise. I keep hoping that maybe someday his official Web site will add a store for official merchandise... but I doubt this will happen any time soon. If anyone out there knows of a good source for Jackson Browne t-shirts and merchandise, please write in and let the rest of us know.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Well, I think that I missed the boat long ago...was wondering by chance if Jackson will be venturing to Syracuse for a concert? I only saw him once in Tampa, and I was pretty far gone by the time I got there. I was just 20 then. I didn't know at the time what I was missing. Now I am 39, soon to be 40, and I love him! I love everything about him. What was I thinking back then? Jackson, if you read this, please come to Syracuse and "doctor the eyes'' of all us snowbirds...especially me. The tequila days are over for me, well sort of...Please say you will, and I promise not to miss a single thing this time. The summer would be good. Your late blooming admirer,

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

I have not found an internet site that sells official JB merchandise, but there are often interesting JB-related items available on eBay (ebay.com). Right now there is quite a range of posted items: t-shirts, buttons, posters, used backstage passes, original photographs.... They are really fun to look at even if you don't buy.

For those who are not familiar with the site, eBay is essentially a huge garage sale. You deal directly with the seller when you buy (i.e. eBay is not invloved in the exchange except in cases of a conflict between buyer and seller). I have never bought on eBay, but I have sold items, and this has worked out very well.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Dear Russ, I enjoy this WEBsite...and without it, I would not have learned about the 1999 Jackson Browne concert schedule. You are an excellent "Webmaster". THANK YOU! I am writing to you today because I am on the side of "no e-mail Lisa" (Jan. 2000 comments).

It is upsetting to read criticisms that are ridiculous and hurtful. I do not understand the anger of Rick (Dec. 1999) regarding the choice of songs, etc. at the Las Vegas concert. Culver Moon, Barricades of Heaven, For Everyman, World in Motion, I'm Alive, Next Voice You Hear....Are you KIDDING?????? These are some of the BEST Jackson Browne songs EVER and some of my ultimate favorite songs. (I am sure that many others share my sentiments.) I would have traded (almost) anything to have had Rick's seat at the concert that night. Although I was unable to attend the Eagles/Jackson Browne concerts in December, I feel extremely fortunate that I was able to see Jackson (et al.) at the Gorge Amphitheater and at the Sweeney Center in Sante Fe in 1999.

Both concerts were (beyond) remarkable. I have seen many Jackson Browne concerts and also have attended numerous other concerts...and I have never, ever known ANY other musician (or band) to be so open and responsive to the audience-----every time I have seen him-----especially when it comes to choice of songs! Gimme a break, just because an artist doesn't play the songs YOU want to hear, you "have problems"! Well, maybe you DO! What a shame! The song set that was published sounded wonderful to me. How does Rick know that "...nobody knew these songs?" Did he do an exit poll as he left the concert to see how many people knew all the songs that were played? Just because people are not hooting and hollering does not mean that they are not enjoying the music.

I am not in the music business, so I am not an expert, but honestly...Who do you think profited from the excessive ticket prices at the concert? I think sometimes these matters are way beyond the control of the artists. And there were many artists involved in the show that night. Surely, matters were beyond the control of Jackson Browne. Russ, I recognize and commend your efforts to provide a forum where people can write their comments about (basically) anything. But I do not understand why people waste their precious time and energies being critical of entertainers and artists like Jackson Browne who share so much of their heart and soul and are so unselfish in their professional and personal goals.

I do not understand people like RRRdurk who "resent"---(Webster's definition:"become angered at having been injured") comments like those from "no e-mail Lisa". Again I say, what a shame. Jackson Browne is inspirational and he and his music are loved by so many people. RRRdurk, man, get on the winning team! Miserable people, please keep your miserableness (not in Webster's) to yourselves and don't spread it around. I don't want to catch it, Thank you.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Another year gone by and Jackson has been passed over for his long over due place in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Is there anything that can be done by the fans to convince the voters they are making a huge mistake by not electing this great songwriter to take his well deserved place in the Hall of Fame.

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

Hi Russ a long with everybody else, it's been a while since I've had the chance to check out this site, since I had moved from one state to another. More like from one coast to another, I sure do miss Cailfornia.

But before did leave CA I did go to the JB and Eagles concert in LA, I was disappointed with my seats too far up and I have a fear of heights as it is. The real highlight was the guy who was so fucked up he was puking all over his area and they had to come and take him out. It really did grossed a lot of us out there. I was also disappoint in the short set by JB, but I think the Eagles made that up until JB didn't join them for "Take it easy".

I was nice to hear Linda, since I've never had been to a concert with her there. I know I got confused many years ago when Karla Bonoff open for JB back on "Running on empty" tour . I know when I was younger I had a schoolboy crush on Linda, now I wonder whatever happen to that pretty woman, voice is still there I'll give her that.

Well about all I can do now is wait for JB next album and hope like hell he'll be coming near my new area if not then I'll have to plan my vacation and go see him elsewhere, who know maybe I'll just go back to CA just for that reason alone.

Well Looking East now is Living East

Take it easy;

GENERAL FAN COMMENTS:

I visited the Jackson Browne web site for the first time a few months ago and was over the moon with the wealth of information there. You probably have no idea what this means to us Brits who have no other way of finding out what is happening and when. Although Jackson is still a big enough name (in the early 80s he was very big) to sell out concerts here on the rare occasions when he tours Western Europe you may be surprised that most people have never heard of him or, even if the name is sort of familiar, couldn't name any songs. You mention "Take It Easy" - the response is "Oh the Eagles" - at which point you give up! I get the impression that he is pretty much a household name out your way. The only time he's had mention in the national press in the last year or so was over the Daryl Hannah incident when one or two papers raked it all up again when John Kennedy died.

I've been a JB fan since 1977 - I heard "The Pretender" once and I was absolutely hooked. Reading some of the letters on the web site I'm surprised that there are American fans out there who rarely make it to his concerts. Now I know you have a lot of land out there but is any distance too far to see THE singer songwriter of the last 20 /30 years play live? I've seen him live six times - most recently when he headlined at the Cambridge Folk Festival about three years ago. - I don't think he's been in the country since then. Actually he wasn't in a very good mood that night (some problems with the sound and equipment) and he sort of through a wobbler; but he always give great value. On that occasion he sang some excellent alternative lyrics to "Cocaine" - I can't recall all of them but one line went "You take Nancy, I'll take Ron, I wonder which drug they're both on" Anybody know the rest? I have the BBC2 recording of him doing solo versions of The Pretender and Take It Easy on that night.

Shows which really stick in my mind from over the years are the Looking East tour (Manchester) and Lives In The Balance tour (London). There seems to be a suggestion from some correspondents who clearly manage to see Jackson play quite regularly that he doesn't change/vary his set as much as he might.. I've probably heard him perform about two thirds of the songs from his albums. Do others have songs that they have never heard him play but wish to god he would? - I offer "You Love The Thunder" (with or without the broken snare string!) and from the work of another West Coast artist - Warren Zevon's "Mohammed's Radio"

Any views out there?
