Dear JB fans:
I have two extra tickets to the August 7th show in West Palm at the Mars Music Ampitheatre. Unfortuneately, I am not able to do them gratis like the very generous Rsutton1. I paid $120.00 and would like face value. If anyone is interested, contact me by E-mail. I think it is too close to send via mail now so if you are interested, e-mail me and I will meet you there at the venue. I will be there early(about 3:30-4:00) to pick up tickets at will call.
Regards,
Russ,
Thanks for finding out what you could about the benefit concert in Sedona. Every little bit helps. I am going out there with my cousin regardless. However, if you are reading this too Jackson, I really REALLY hope we'll get to see a show. The proceeds are going to such a good cuase as well. Education is so important no matter what nationality the kids are.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Hi,
Would love to purchase 2 great tickets for the Tues 8/6 concert in Tampa.
Also one for the 8/7 West Palm Beach concert coming up. Thank You,
Bonjour ( hi ) ,
Once Francis Cabrel ( our french Jackson ) adapted Rosie and waww it remembered some here that Jackson is a great songwriter. Jackson worked with Carlos Nunez too and some others , it would be great to find a song again by Francis Cabrel who is a top seller in France . Maybe the answer is by Francis . We are all waiting here for Jackson's new album.
Dear Russ,
I was lucky enough to find out about the Appel Farm concert and drive the 2 1/2 hours down from the NYC Metro area to see my man Jackson.
I met him about three years ago in an airport at 6:30 in the morning and helped him find first class check in. He gave me a kiss and I will never forget it. I have been a fan so long, I can't even remember that far back. I just got back from California, and had to stop in at the Troubador to get the feel of where it all bagan. It was like magic.
His concert was great, and when he told the audience that he could actually see us out there everyone went wild. Then at one point, he said "so if you think that I'm looking at you, I am". I could swear he was looking at me. Then a man that was standing next to me at the concert, turned to me and said " you know he was talking to you, don't you?".
Jackson, if you read this and you were looking at me, keep on looking because you are bound to find me.
Love you and your music forever
Russ,
Thank you for puting together such a great site. I have been a fan of JB music since High School, 1980 something.
JB's music has seen me through the Army, running on empty crosscountry road trips, Rosie nights, breakups and downs, personal loss and finnally marriage and kids!!
I have seen JB twice in concert, 2 unbelievabley great shows. My wife unfortunatly has not. For me it has been a long dry spell 6 or 7 years.
I picked up JB'S first album 6 months ago and have not taken it out of the CD player since. I absolutely love his music and lyrics. Did he really write Take it Easy with Glenn Frey? I can't believe I did not buy this album sooner.
I saw the concert info and JB playing at Red Rock in Denver. I have always wanted to see a concert there, and now what a perfect venue.
I will be leaving Chicago Aug 18th to see JB Aug 19th. Can someone hook me up with 2 tickets, and good lodging restaurant info. This is a road trip that is long overdue. A blast from the past, with the exception the car is not held together with duct tape and I actually have money for tickets, gas and a place to rest my head.
At 35 I am feeling 25 and looking forward to a graet show and the road!!!
Denver JB fans dont Hold Out!!

Hi, Russ!
I posted this review of the Jackson Browne/Tom Petty concert in Tampa last night at www.scarecrowsdream.com/discussion.htm.
The audience at the Tampa Ice Palace last night was able to rock it up to a double bill of star performers who have graced us with their music for over thirty years. They haven't lost their magic touch, and their fans let them know it!
Jackson and his band were first to take the stage, opening with "Boulevard." Though I love Jackson's solo acoustic performances, it was great to see him with a band again. He draws energy from them, and they force him to stick to a set list! There were still shouted requests from the audience, but the show remained on course. Jackson stated once during the show that he wanted to thank his long time fans for attending his solo acoustic shows and for sticking with him throughout his career.
After "Boulevard" came "Everywhere I Go." Then Jackson, moving seamlessly between guitar and keyboard, continued with "Fountain of Sorrow," "Barricades of Heaven," and "I'm Alive."
Soon, Jackson paused to introduce his band members. They include Mark Goldenberg on guitar, Mauricio "Fritz" Leewek on drums, Kevin McCormick on bass, and Jeff Young on keyboards. Jennifer Gross added her angelic backing vocals.
The crowd erupted when they heard the intro to "Doctor, My Eyes" and, yup, they were on their feet, dancin' in the aisles. The performance won Jackson a standing ovation.
My personal favorite performance of the night was the captivating "Culver Moon." The extended version, performed with the band and Jennifer's solo, elevated this song to a new level. Jackson outdid himself on this one.
The audience gave Jackson two more standing ovations after his performances of "The Pretender," and "Running on Empty."
Then, after expressing their thank yous and goodbyes, the band left the stage. Since many fans had come to see Jackson in star capacity rather than as an opening act, there was a smattering of boos when they realized there would be no encore. Jackson played for about an hour, but time constraints prevented a return to the stage.
Many fans have voiced displeasure in seeing Jackson in the role of opening act, but his strategy is a good one. Jackson Browne, either solo or with a band, can usually fill the mid-size venues. He could probably not fill a large arena like the Ice Palace as the sole headliner at this point in his career. By touring with a band that still draws a large venue crowd, he gets his music in front of many more people. The timing is perfect, given the expected release of his new CD, "Naked Ride Home," on September 24. A major tour in support of the new CD will be announced shortly. The first single from this CD, "The Night Inside Me," will be released to selected radio stations on August 19, so listen up.
After a half-hour break, Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers stepped on stage. Tom is a homegrown Florida boy, and the Tampa audience kept reminding him that he is theirs. He opened with a crowd favorite, "Runnin' Down a Dream," followed by "I Won't Back Down." During the second song, the audience spontaneously erupted into song, chanting the choruses back to the band on stage. This phenomenon continued throughout the concert. The fans know Tom's music and took every opportunity to join in vociferously. Tom continued with "I Need to Know."
At this point in the concert, Tom made reference to his new studio album due in stores in October. He played three songs from the album, including "Have Love Will Travel," "Lost Children," and "Can't Stop the Sun." The songs bode well for his latest collection of work.
Band members for this tour are Scott Thurston on guitar and keyboards, Steve Ferrone on drums, Benmont Tench on piano, original Heartbreakers' bass player Ron Blair, and Mike Campbell on his legendary guitar. The guitar duels between Mike and Tom were highlights of the concert.
Tom's acoustic versions of "Rebels" and "Learning to Fly" were breathtaking. The lyrical guitar sounds were heavenly.
Other favorites on the set list were "Here Comes My Girl," "Even the Losers," an extended version of "It's Good to Be King, and the rocking "Refugee."
Near the end of the show, Tom declared that he was happy to announce that this tour is not being sponsored by any corporation. "This tour is brought to you by you," he said, pointing out at the audience. The crowd roared its approval. This was in obvious reference to the recent controversy over the practice of bands selling their music for commercial uses. Many fans have condemned it as "selling out."
Unlike Jackson, Tom and his band did return to the stage for a long encore, including the favorite "Free Fallin'," "Gloria," and the final song of the night, "American Girl." It's clear that even after all these years, Tom still has much life left in his career, and the fans are planning on hearing lots more music from him.
Concert photos and an extended tribute to Tom Petty will be posted here [at www.scarecrowsdream.com] soon. Before the flames start, the concert photos are legal, since scarecrowsdream.com was awarded full media status last night. Stay tuned.
Hi there.
I recently attended the Jackson Browne / Tom Petty show in Tampa and I thought you would like to see some photos I took of the show. Thanks to your site I was able to find out the name of his stunnig backup singer Jennifer Gross, there are some shots of her as well. I enclosed one photo and the link for the page with all the other photos. I'm no pro. http://groups.msn.com/WorldViews/galactic.msnw
Hope you enjoy them,
Hi Russ! Thanks to your great website I have been able to see Jackson in concert more times than I can count. Keep up the great work! I have two tickets for sale for the concert at Red Rocks in Colorado on Wednesday, August 21. They added a second show on August 19, and that date works out better for me so I bought tickets to that one and will be going to it instead. The tickets are for general admission seats, which are the best seats at Red Rocks because the 1st 25 rows are general admission! Just be sure to get there early and you can have GREAT seats. I'm selling them for what I paid, which is $115.00 total. Email me if you want to buy these tickets for August 21.
Thanks!
Just got word that the Sedona concert has been cancelled for this year. And it came from a reliable source. I am extremely disappointed. Any suggestions on how we can get him out here?
Webmaster's Reply:
This year's annual Verde Valley School Benefit Concert has been cancelled. Here's the press release which was release August 7th, late in the afternoon:
"The 13th annual Verde Valley School Music Festival to benefit the Native American Scholarship Project at the Hamilton Warren Amphitheatre in Sedona, Arizona has been cancelled.
The concert will not be held this year because it became impossible for the concert producers and the Verde Valley School to find a workable date that did not conflict with important school activities and the individual schedules of the performers.
In trying to coordinate this year's event, the concert producers were faced with a new administration at the school, which was in transition during the early planning stages of the concert this past spring; the new administration only became finalized in late July.
The concert, which had been held for the past eleven years, provided funds for Native American scholars to attend the Verde Valley School, and to further prepare them for college. To date, the benefit event has raised over $712,000 for Native American scholars, and has been directly responsible for financing the tuition of more than 37 students to attend the Verde Valley School. In 1997, as a direct result of the benefit concert, $1.7 million, now known as the Berry endowment, was donated to the school to perpetuate the scholarships of Native students; before his death, Mr. Berry had attended every single concert since its inception in 1990.
Jackson Browne remains committed to the Native American Scholarship Project, which he and former Verde Valley School headmaster John Ulsh created in 1990, and wishes the new administration the best success in their first year at Verde Valley.
Any questions regarding the cancellation of the 13th annual Verde Valley School Music Festival should be directed to Jensen Communications at 626-585-9575."
Hi every one - konnichiwa!
I am a Jackson maniac from Japan, since 1977. I went to Jackson concerts in 1980,1996 and 1998. He is great composer and live act. Happy to hear Jackson's new song.
If anybody have a new CD-single "The Night Inside Me" please sell me it.
I wish Jackson would come to Japan!!
Best regarts (yorosiku onegai itasimasu)
Dear Russ.
My name is Niklas and i am from Sweden.I am a HUGE fan of JB, the problem for me is that i have to wait until mid-october to buy Jacksons new record here in Sweden. Do you think there is a chance to hear the new single over the net? Do you think Jackson will come to Sweden to promote the album and do some shows? I can't wait to hear the new songs.
Thank you for a wonderful site. JB is the greatest songwriter in the world.

Dear fellow Jackson Lovers-
I Have tickets for the show Sept. 1 and would love to here your reveiws of other shows with Tom Petty. I saw him 2 other times before, BEAUTIFUL! Once in 93' for the I'm Alive tour, where he so lovingly had to restart Sky Blue and Black a couple of times. Its my favorite and I hope he keeps playing it live. The second time was at the Mountain Winery last year on the acoustic tour, he was fabulous! Jackson has helped me through good times and down times. He touches me everytime.
Thank You Jackson.
I caught Jackson's show 8/9/02 in Atlanta. The set list follows:
It was a nice set list, but nothing extraordinary. It appeared to me that Jackson and the band are gearing up for their headlining tour. Scott Thruston, who is touring with the Heartbreakers, did not play with Jackson, and his vocals were sorely missed. Overall, the band sounding good. Jackson confirmed the release date for "The Naked Ride Home" as September 24, 2002.

Dear Russ,
Thank you maintaining this awesome website. You have know idea how extremely disappointed I am by the news about the cancellation of the annual Verde Valley concert. I'm turning 40 at the end of the year and was planning to make that my weekend to celebrate with family and friends. I have been a Jackson Browne fan since the late 70's and have been to every JB concert in the Phoenix area. His music has been very inspiring and influential in my life. I keep several JB cd's in my car at all times, you never know what a married, working mom approaching 40, mood will be like. Since he didn't make it out here earlier this year with his solo-acoustic concert, I was depending on this show. Jackson, if your listening, please, please, please make Phoenix a stop during your next tour. It's been awhile and we're "running on empty".......
I just had the pleasure of attending another great Jackson concert. God it feels good. It was a hot muggy night in West Palm and Jackson gave us all a great dose of rock and roll. He was up on his feet rocking for most of the show. It was great to see him with his band dancing and full of energy. He played his new song The Night inside of me, as well as many old favorites. To the best of my memory the set list was:
It was great. My brother in law, who also attended the solo acoustic show in May didn't believe it was the same man. Jackson was hot and the band was too. Thanks Jackson for giving us two very different sensations this year. In May I was sitting in the third row watching my favorite performer alone with all that talent sing his songs so close and so personal I felt serenaded and complete. I left that show with total contentment and peace. Now Wed, 8/7 I was in the grass a mile from the stage but up on my feet dancing full of energy, full of Jackson, and maybe feeling a bit more like 27 than 47. Thanks Jackson for all the years of great music. I'll be standing in line to get Naked Ride Home on Sept 24th. Keep the faith
Hi Russ - great site, thanks for all the hard work. I was lucky enogh to catch two of Jackson's acoustic shows this summer & I was VERY impressed. I just downloaded the new single from Jackson's Official newsletter - WOW! The production sounds alot like "Looking East". The new tune is great and now I'm even MORE impatient for the new album! Great great stuff, Jackson!
The Florida shows were great.
I can't add much to what Linda has already posted in her review of the show at the Ice Palace in Tampa...except to say that I dug Jackson's satiny funkadelic shirt...and "Your Bright Baby Blues" (no slide) was played after "I'm Alive" (I think.) On "Culver Moon", Jackson sang "west of where the Laker's play", instead of "north"...(Did the Lakers recently change stadiums? Which is accurate? We Floridians don't know.) Jackson's voice was great. The band was awesome. Unfortunately, some of my inner ear cells have been destroyed by too many rock concerts and some of my brain cells by age, so I couldn't hear/can't remember the name of the new guitarist in the band! He is tall, blond, and young (my vision is still ok). I hope that someone out there catches his name...so he can get the credit he deserves...
West Palm Beach Concert
Here's what I remember:
1st Act:Hope ya'll enjoy the rest of the tour! Take it Easy!
Webmaster's Reply:
Yes! The Los Angeles Lakers did change stadiums since "Culver Moon" was written and released nearly 7 years. They used to play in Inglewood, CA at the Great Western Forum, but for the past several year they have played at The Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. This explains the change in lyrics!
Hi Russ, I have two tickets for the show at Red Rocks on the 19th. It is breaking my heart that I cant go to see two of my favorite performers but something has come up which can't be changed. The seats are in the 32nd row which I believe is right by the sound board. If anyone is interested they are $60 each. Thanks
Webmaster's Reply:
I'm told that these tickets have now been sold to a true -- and now very happy -- Jackson Browne fan.
First off, great website. I've been searching for a place to find a setlist of Jackson's recent shows. Now for my story.
I will be in Colorado for vacation the week of Aug 17-24. I saw where Tom Petty was playing Red Rocks and thought about going to the show however I was not sure how that would interfere with my plans to do other things while out there. My girlfriend called me at work on Friday and said we need to decide if we are going to the concert or not. I went to ticketmaster's website to check on prices, seats, etc. When I got to the webpage I saw Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers with opening act Jackson Browne. I bought my tickets right then. I have been listening to Jackson Browne for as long as I can remember. I'm 29 years old now but my Dad used to play his records over and over. I feel like I grew up with Jackson Browne. I can't wait to see the show. Not only will I be at Red Rocks, seeing Tom Petty (another one of my fav's) but Jackson Browne as well. I have never seen him in concert. He performed here in Memphis on his last two solo tours but I was out of town the nights of those shows. I'll be sure and write a review when I get back from vacation.
russ, i used to write articles for brian leahy's late for the sky magazine. my name is terry baker and i have been a huge jackson fan since i first heard for everyman the week before late for the sky was released, all those years ago. like many that look at your stupendous site, i have allways felt a personal connection to his lyrics. recently i had some music playing in the car & the version of lfts from morning becomes eclectic came on & i realised once again that there are many great singers & great songwriters & then there is jackson, head & shoulders above anyone who ever put it into music. i'm not very computer literate so this has taken forever to get onto screen. i'd like to send another e-mail as soon as time permits, until then keep listening because truelly the greatest thing about jackson browne music is that one day a song you,ve heard a thousand times will suddenly grab you for the first time and you will hear it anew. recently for many complex reasons that happened to me with my opening farewell. there is a version that i heard with bonnie rait from a version in a church in new york & the lyric suddenly screamed at me personally and it touched me deeply.only jackson's open wounded songs could ever do this to a cynic such as i.
can't wait for the new album, thanks for the great work that you continue to do, take it easy,
Hi!
I wanted to let everyone know how awesome Jackson was at this concert, but he kept thanking Tom Petty for letting him tour with him.....everyone back in the lawn seats (where I was) was yelling for an encore after he was done and we noticed a lot of people leaving after his performance. They came just for him, as he was the main reason I bought the tickets...for Jackson! My mom has been a fan of him since she was in high school and even went backstage and partied with him twice! I give him more love than Tom Petty! It was the first concert of his I have been to and hopefully not the last...I will be a forever fan!
Thanks for the awesome show, I just wish you would play Redneck friend just once more, I know there is a reason he won't......but can't a girl dream!
Thanks!
Webmaster's Reply:
I'm relly enjoying Bruce Springsteen's new album. I think it's the best thing he's released in a very long time. Jackson fans should also note that both James Taylor and Graham Nash also have wonderful new albums out.
Hi Russ,
I'm the lucky guy from Wisconsin who received the three free tickets to the St. Louis show. Unfortunately, my two teenage daughters have decided that a seven hour drive in the car is not the way they want to finish their summer vacation, so I'm on the road solo with the tickets. I'm willing to share the original generosity with someone, but I'd also like some info on St Louis...where to stay, what is a good place to hit before the show, etc. Any info would be much appreciated..I know this is late, but I kept thinking that my girls would come around. Oh yeah, I've followed your site for a long time, but I've never written in before. I've seen Jackson about 40 times going back to 1973. Hope you can help me out and post this ASAP. Thanks a lot.
Hi, Russ.
Thanks for all the hard work you do to maintain such a fantastic website. With a release date now set for the new album, I hope Jackson will be announcing tour dates soon. I must say I am horribly envious of all you who have been able to see Jackson on both his recent acoustic tour and/or with Tom Petty. I've had the privilege of seeing JB live eight times, but have not seen him since 1996. Jackson, if you're listening, the people of Dallas miss you! My husband and I were planning on going to Sedona both last year and this, but it seems it is not to be. Perhaps in a few years when my kids are out of college, I can travel and catch more of his shows. Those of you who have seen this wonderful musician perform, you know not to miss an opportunity; those of you who haven't yet need to treat yourselves. While I have been a fan since 1973, my husband first learned to love Jackson's music after taking me to see him in concert in 1980. His shows are always a highlight.
Keep the music coming.
Dear JB Fans,
We drove all the way from St. Louis to Cincinnati to see Jackson at Riverbend Music Center which was last night ( Aug. 13.) As you know, Jackson was the opening act for Tom Petty. The concert was scheduled to start at 8:00 pm. (Said so clearly on the tickets and in the Cincinnati paper, radio, etc.) We arrived at the venue around 7:45 and to our disbelief, could hear Jackson already on stage as we got out of our car to head to the concert! He started his set at 7:30 or even before, according to the ushers we asked!!! We could not believe this!! So we got to hear about 3 or 4 songs of Jackson's after driving all that way and paying $60 a ticket... He did not even do an encore by the way, even tho the fans clearly wanted one.. I simply could not believe that they started his set 30 minutes before the scheduled show time!!!!... I have seen JB around 15 times or so and have loved every concert of his I have ever been to (including some of his in Cincy in the past at this same venue - which were fantastic...) as we are TRUE diehard fans (thus the drive to Cincy to see him...), so this was truly unbelievable... We never did find out why he started so early while half the crowd was still filing in... If anyone knows anything about this early start in Cincinnati that many of his fans there missed, please send the reason ... No one at Riverbend in Cincinnati we asked seemed to know the reason... By the way, Tom Petty was great and had a fantastic show, and made up for our JB disappointment a LOT, as we love the Heartbreakers, but simply could not believe we missed most of the Jackson show.... So beware out there for a possible early start at the concert YOU go to, also!!!..... Get there EARLY!!!

hello
Along with friends, I attended the 8/13/02 concert in Cincinnati with Jackson opening for Tom Petty. We arrived and parked and were walking to our seats by 7:45pm or so and had heard his music playing. By the time we were seated just before 8pm his show was nearly over, we heard only 3 songs. I was disappointed and angy too because it clearly stated on the tickets and in the paper that the show was to start at 8pm. So basically we were cheated.
At $60 a ticket this seems like a real scam to me, especially since Jackson did not even do an encore while everyone clapped and clearly wanted one.
I need to know what to do to demand a refund, this clearly was not what we paid for.
Thank you
Webmaster's Reply:
I'm looking into this. But you probably should contact the venue for a refund. They are the ones that sold you the ticket and they are most certainly the ones that made Jackson go on early. Of course, from the venue's perspective, Tom Petty was the headliner and Jackson was just an opening act... I'll post here when I find out more.
Hi Russ,
I was lucky enough to have seen Jackson last night in Indianapolis (Verizon Center) opening up for Tom Petty. Overall it really was a great show, but I have to admit I was very disappointed in only seeing Jackson perform nine songs and no encore. Being an avid Jackson fan and was really there only to see Jackson, depression set in when I realized he was not coming back out. Was also disappointed that Tom petty did not thank Jackson for opening up for him and did not last summer as well. Jackson thanked Tom Petty at least four times for having him open up. I think he spoiled us with his 3 hour acoustical tour and I can't imagine I will ever see a better show. Oh well, I am looking forward to his new album and hopefully a headlining tour next year.
Sincerely,
First off, thanks again for the great site. Would like to say that Jackson and band sounded great. I've been fortunate to see Jackson quite a few times over last 20 years and one can tell that these guys have been together for some time. I , along with all the other JB fans are waiting on his tour promoting the album, where we'll have more than an hour of him and his band.
As for the scheduling change at the Riverbend amphitheater, luckily I puchased mine online and while tickets did state that the show started at 08:00 pm, I was notifyed by Ticketmaster via Email shortly after ticket purchase. River bend website also showed the change. I agree though, seems a refund should be due by someone?
Once again, thanks Russ for keeping us informed.
Dear Russ,
First of all, I'd like to say a big thank-you for maintaining such a wonderful web site for all of us JB fans. Thanks to you and your frequent updates and concert information, I've been able to get great seats at the last three concerts I've attended. You've made my life as a loyal Jackson supporter much easier!
The concert on Aug. 10 took place in a very nice outdoor amphitheatre just outside Birmingham, AL. The weather was great--not even as hot as usual in August--and our seats were great--2nd row, far right. Jackson lead his band out onto the stage looking relaxed and ready to play. I had heard that at other concerts with Tom Petty, the crowd has often been noisy and restless during JB's set, but after the first song on this night, the entire crowd really got into the music--at least down in the front sections where we were sitting--all the seats filled up and people were mostly on their feet. Jackson even came out for an encore which I wasn't expecting. Jackson commented on how nice a night it was and thanked Tom Petty two or three times. He was smiling a lot and having fun with the band, teasing Jennifer Gross when she missed a cue, seemed to be having a great time. For the fashion concious out there, he was wearing an elegant-looking soft grey silk shirt (short-sleeved), dark loose-fitting pants, and lace-up shoes. Jackson is two years older than I am and three years younger than my husband, but I tell you, I think he must have an aging portrait up in his attic or something--he still looks like he's in his thirties--and we most certainly don't! The few lines he does have just add more character to that lovely face.
Here's the set:
Not enough...never enough, of course! My husband, who was really there for Tom Petty and at my insistence on seeing Jackson, enjoyed JB's set and was impressed with his band and his voice. He particularly liked the arrangment of Culver Moon--said they really "cooked" on that one. My favorite moments were probably Jackson flubbing a line on Fountain a Sorrow (one of my all-time favorites), the joy with which he sings I'm Alive, giving grief to the band members during his introductions, coming out with a huge smile and a wave to encore with a rousing version of Running on Empty.
Well, can't wait for the new CD and the tour that I hope will follow soon after its release. Until then, let the music keep our spirits high...
P.S. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were really great, too!
Hi, Russ!
Thanks for the great website!
Just a few brief notes about Jackson' s performance last night. Jackson was in great voice and seemed to be enjoying himself. Although Jackson talked much less to the audience this time, I thought the show was stronger and the band sounded better than when Jackson played here last year. He started promptly at 8:00 p.m. and played 10 songs, with the last one being an encore. I think that although this is the same number of songs he has played at most of the venues, this gives the impression of being more fan friendly than 10 songs with no encore.
Although there was a large number of Jackson's fans there (many more than last year), Kansas City has a huge fan base for Tom Petty as witnessed by the approximately 18,000 fans who attended and sang along to every TP song save for the 3 he played from the new album he will release in October. Still, the crowd was really into Jackson and nearly everyone was standing for Jackson's final song and encore. The setlist in order....
I would encourage all of Jackson's fans who can to see this show. Tom Petty will give you your money's worth, too, as he does an outstanding set.

Hi all -
I am a huge JB fan...have been for 30 years. JB opened for Tom Petty last night at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in Kansas City and I was very disappointed. JB did not perform Rosie, and even more UNBELIEVABLE, he did not perform Load Out/Stay. My heart was crushed. I'm curious to know if he has performed these songs at other concerts????
Very disappointed in KC
Hey everyone. Just wanted to say that Jackson Browne deserved a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Wow... I'm not quite sure what to say now that I have read so many similar responses to the infinite inspiration Jackson Browne has given to the world. I am 19 years old, and I was intorduced to JB's music about 10 years ago growing up from the rocky shores of Portland Maine to the sandy beaches of California... I have been a fan ever since. However, to say that I am his "biggest fan" would be quite a cliche... It seems as though he has an amazing effect on everyone, and that is one of the many things I admire about him. Because of him, at the age of thirteen I started playing the guitar and writing my own music. My biggest dream would be to one day share my music with him... I recently attended his solo-acoustic concert at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Al.(May 27th)... It was the most beautiful thing I had ever experienced. On August 10th, I saw him open for Tom Petty at the Oak Mtn.Ampitheatre in B'ham, Al. So I started and ended my summer off with 2 JB performances, and I can honestly say that it was perfect. I finally found a copy of his DVD "Going Home" at a local record shop, and it has become my favorite thing to listen to while I'm home... (I only hope the neighbors don't complain about the noise, but who would possibly complain about Jackson Browne being too loud?!)... Thank you for having this wonderful site for a wonderful artist, and I LOVE YOU JACKSON!
I must say that Jackson's concert (St. Louis) was great. He sounded fantastic, and I only wish that he had another 2 hours to share. There were many of us (40s folks) who would've been more than happy to listen all night to his music. I'm sorry that we only got to hear him for an hour, but we enjoyed every minute of the hour he did have.
If there is ever a time Jackson would be performing alone, he would do quite well, and we would love to be there again.
Also, his music brought back so many memories and the feelings of years past, and it was very relaxing to just be "peaceful" for one hour.
This year has not been the best in my life (lost my son), and Fountain of Sorrow darn near made me lose it - yet at the same time, it comforted my heart.
So, to Jackson Browne and his entire group: "Thank you. You were wonderful! Please come back soon." Hope you enjoyed your short stay in St. Louis.
Hello Russ and fellow Jackson Browne fans. The concert at Red Rocks was terrific! The natural setting of the amphitheater is spectacular, the night was gently warm and the moon was almost full-luckily the music was equal to the setting. We had the greatest bonus-3 extra songs for the sound check, conducted about half an hour or less before the concert was to begin. Jackson came out and the audience of course went crazy, so he laughed and said "Welcome to the soundcheck." He said that we'd hear some songs that aren't normally part of the concert and he and the band proceeded to do "A Child in These Hills", which was wonderful. He asked the audience, "Do you want to hear songs you're familiar with?" He then launched into "In the Shape of a Heart". Finally he did "Sky Blue and Black". The regular concert was great, with the same rocking line-up as the August 16 show. I think his strongest performance was the encore, "For a Rocker".
Being there primarily for Jackson's performance, though I really enjoyed Tom Petty too, it was disconcerting to see people milling around and coming in during his performance, instead of being rapturously attentive, like me! I felt better though when I saw that there were more people buying Jackson's T-shirts than Tom's! I agree with the comments made previously, that Jackson has the opportunity to expose a lot of new listeners when he guests with someone as popular at Tom Petty. Clearly, Jackson has his own really devoted fan base, but I heard a lot of positive comments from people who were not so familiar with his music. It was interesting to see the differences between the two "stars". Jackson is much more laid back, humbler, in a way, letting the music speak for itself. He seemed very relaxed and like he was enjoying himself, too. The band sounded great, including a new guitarist, Val something, I hadn't know of before. Tom Petty is more of a show man, with lots of little tricks to get the audience going, such as starting the show with "Hey Baby", and throwing out lots of lines and gestures sure to get a big roar of approval. I hope Jackson's tour to promote his new album will bring him back to the West, where we can see him surrounded by people who will apreciate his music fully. We had to travel several hours to Denver, and it was truly worth it. We'll see him twice more this tour. Thanks for a great site. It's fun to read about everyone else's experiences and impressions, and to anticipate my own!
Hi Russ,
I just recently discovered you site, it's fabulous! I've been a Jackson Browne fan for 30 years now, discovered him when I was 14. His songs are such beautiful poetry, they speak to my soul.
My husband and I were lucky enough to see him in Tampa, he was great but I wish he'd had more time. We're from Gainesville, FL so we've seen Petty and the Heartbreakers several times, but this was only the 2nd time we'd seen Jackson.
The first was way back in fall of 1976 in Jacksonville, FL at the Florida Theatre when he was doing the "Running on Empty" Tour. With that concert performance he became my all-time favorite performer. His music moves me to tears, makes me smile and gives me such joy.
Thanks for letting fans have a place to share their experiences. Live, love and laugh,
First, I would like to thank you for the wonderful website that I discovered on 8/21 as I was so excited about the upcoming concert at Red Rocks that I was surfing for Jackson Browne sites. This is a wonderful webpage and thank you for all your hard work.
Red Rocks is the best place to see a concert. I just love it there. Jackson seemed very happy too, remarking several times that "There is no place in the world like Red Rocks." A few years ago when he came to Denver he played at Fiddler's Green and asked the crowd if they liked this place and everyone said, "No." and he has not played there since.
This was a great show by both Jackson Browne and Tom Petty. I was lucky enough to get to the show early and see Jackson's sound check which was:
His set list was: (I may have the order slightly wrong, I apologize)
There was another song in there that I was not familiar with. All in all, a wonderful set by Jackson. He seemed very relaxed and happy and the band was fantastic. A magical night.
Just saw jackson last night and remembered what it was like to feel alive again! I took my 20 yr old daughter who has been listening to all my cd's for years and she was just as awestruck to see him in person as i was. I saw him several times in the 70's and he pulled me through many trying times in my life. If you see this, jackson, i was in the 2nd row.... to your left...short blonde hair with a huge grin on my face! You made me feel good and happy about life again..thankyou. Don't ever underestimate the power of your music...you are truly blessed with a gift.
Due to circumstance I wasn't able to go see the show, so I would love to read anyone's/everyone's view about the (great show I'm sure) JB/TomP concert in Albuquerque NM on 22, Aug. ....How was it? Anyone?? Just eager to hear. Thanks, BL
